Gentis Foundation: who are we?

The Foundation was founded in mid-2000 as the Associació GENTIS de Terapia Familiar (Association for Family Therapy). It subsequently became the Gentis Foundation at the end of 2006.

The organisation is run by a trust comprised of professionals working in care-related fields together with the Fundació Plataforma Educativa (Education Platform Foundation), which is also a member. The trust is represented by a director general who delegates the daily running of its different projects and services to a manager.

The main objectives of the Foundation are:

  • To offer advice, support and psychological adjustment to families.
  • To prepare and develop social programmes that improve the stability and well being of families.
  • To promote community health.
  • To offer specialised training both to professionals and families.
  • To develop projects and programmes, both at national and international level, related to family issues.

There are many situations that can interfere with the functioning of a family and cause moments of crisis, often sparked by relationship/communication problems, situations involving violence or mistreatment, mental illness or the behavioural problems of members, marginalisation or social exclusion, immigration....

These situations cause suffering and unease for the families, who are often alone and without any professional support. They need practical assistance to give them a boost and help them to regain stability and well being. The aim of the Gentis Foundation is to address the problems these families encounter, by designing and carrying out programmes that offer a comprehensive model of intervention.

With this in mind, the Gentis Foundation promotes initiatives, programmes and services that directly address these problems, based on evaluation, diagnosis, counselling, orientation and psychotherapeutic family treatment.
